John Lynch may at least listen to calls about most players, but not Nick Bosa.
Speaking to reporters Monday, the San Francisco 49ers general manager quickly dismissed any possibility of shopping the reigning Defensive Player of the Year before the final season of his rookie deal.
“That hotline is closed. That never opened,” Lynch said before laughing.
There can’t be anybody who seriously thought otherwise.
Bosa powered the league’s top-ranked defense with 18.5 sacks and 48 quarterback hits last season. He’s missed just one game since returning from an ACL tear suffered early in the 2020 season.
Lynch called it a “priority” to extend Bosa this offseason, but talks will likely commence closer to training camp this summer.
“I’m excited about working on that when the time comes,” Lynch said.
Bosa will soon earn a major payday. The 25-year-old should easily top the five-year, $135 million contract his brother, Nick, signed with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020.
