A rough Week 16 game vs. the Ravens that featured four interceptions put a damper on the MVP case for 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel isn’t done campaigning though.
Samuel, who had 12 targets vs. Baltimore, rolled up to the 49ers’ Week 17 game in Washington wearing a vest that has Purdy’s name on the back and No. 13 on both sides. It’s also dotted with “MVP,” making clear what Samuel stands on the race for the award.
Some argue RB Christian McCaffrey deserves the award as much as anyone, but maybe Samuel has another vest lined up for the team’s Week 18 showdown vs. the Rams.
Of course, Samuel is also smart to so loudly support his QB. Purdy’s play this year has Samuel just 176 yards shy of his second 1,000-yard receiving season.
