Christian McCaffrey is teammates with Sam Darnold again.
Darnold signed with the San Francisco 49ers this offseason, joining McCaffrey after the two were together in Carolina last year. McCaffrey is set to get a lot of snaps while Darnold is expected to be a backup to Trey Lance or Brock Purdy.
McCaffrey was recently asked about Darnold joining the 49ers and is excited about it.
“Sam’s great. He can do everything. He can make any throw,” McCaffrey said, (first transcribed by ProFootballTalk). “He’s smart. He’s able to pick things up quickly and do his job. He doesn’t play beyond anything and just does exactly what he’s told all the time and then adds a lot of flare to it too.”
McCaffrey also thinks Darnold will have a lot of fun in Kyle Shanahan’s offense, even if he’s not starting every game.
Darnold appeared in six games for the Panthers last season after taking over for Baker Mayfield. He won four of those games and threw for 1,143 yards and seven touchdowns.
He’ll be a solid backup to whoever wins the starting job in the Bay.
