There may not have been any head coaching jobs available for Bill Belichick in the 2024 NFL offseason, but at least one Super Bowl contender was ready to give him literally any other job he wanted.
Appearing on The TK Show with Tim Kawakami, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that after Belichick got relieved of his head coaching duties with the New England Patriots, he offered Belichick the chance to take any job he wanted with his team – even the defensive coordinator role.
However, Shanahan said that Belichick “politely” turned down his offer. But he still offered glowing praise of the eight-time Super Bowl champion and admitted that he’s shocked Belichick doesn’t have an NFL coaching job.
“I know what I would do if I was an owner, so that shocks me… He’s the best and I like talking to him,” Shanahan said, via Ari Meirov.
After over 20 years with the New England Patriots though, Belichick probably wasn’t looking to take anything less than the top job.
Belichick hasn’t been an assistant since 1999 back when he was still working under his mentor Bill Parcells with the New York Jets.
Should Belichick have taken Shanahan up on his offer?
