John Lynch is hoping to keep Brandon Aiyuk in the Bay for a long, long time.
As the San Francisco wide receiver enters the final year of his fifth-year option, the Niners GM said he’d like to find a way to lock Aiyuk into a long-term extension despite the potential hurdles.
“We have some challenges,” Lynch admitted Tuesday. “We have a lot of good players, a lot of good players who we’ve rewarded. Brandon’s one that we think incredibly highly of, one of my favorite guys around our building, the way he approaches the game. He’s a competitor. He’s a warrior. He plays with such physicality, also with grace, in the way some of the positions his body can get into.”
“And then he’s got a flair for making plays when [they] matter most, and he’s served us very well as a franchise,” Lynch continued. “And I think we’ve got a nice track record of extending the players that are important to us, and Brandon’s the guy we want to keep around for a long time.”
Aiyuk is coming off his second straight 1,000-yard season where he recorded 75 catches for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 regular season games.
The former first-round pick is clearly a weapon Kyle Shanahan likes to use in his offense and at 25-years-old the sky seems to be the limit.
