““Through injury, we’ve suffered (in talent) a little bit. What I don’t like to see is to not be gritty. And once you lose the grittiness … look, you can get beat. I don’t mind getting beat. But you do not push me out of the building. I’m a hard out. And if I get beat, it’s because you took it from my bloody hands.
“And as soon as you start to lose that sense as a group, then things can start to devolve quickly. And that’s why I’m afraid.”
That’s damning. And it’s notable that Lynch, a fellow Hall of Fame player, didn’t dispute Young’s assessment Friday morning when he referenced Young’s comments without prompting.
“I heard people like Steve Young, who’s had our back: I don’t blame him for talking about this team the last couple of weeks the way he did,” Lynch said on KNBR. “You’ve got to earn that right of impressing guys like that.”
