“He’s been awesome these last two days,” Shanahan said. “You never know [about] a setback or anything, but these two days have been great, and I expect to see him out there.”
Brock Purdy, Nick Sorensen, Chris Foerster preview 49ers-Buccaneers Week 10 matchup
“San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Nick Sorensen, offensive line/run game coordinator Chris Foerster, and quarterback Brock Purdy spoke to reporters before Thursday’s practice as the team prepares for its Week 10 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Here’s everything they said.”
Barrows: 49ers mailbag: Why no splashy trade? Which players are on the chopping block? (paywall)
“Yes, the pre-stretch “activation” period the Saints coach was referring to is mandatory for the 49ers. They step over hurdles, do light running and jumping, and otherwise get their bodies warm for the stretch.”
Well-rested 49ers get potentially weary Tampa Bay in a schedule rarity (paywall)
“This season, the 49ers are playing an NFL-high four teams coming off a bye. For perspective, only one other team, the Colts, has more than two such games and 23 teams play one or zero opponents coming off a bye. That explains why the 49ers have a historic negative “rest differential,” the number of days a team has off between games compared to its opponent. Their rest differential (-22) is the third-worst in the NFL since 2002, according to NFL analyst Warren Sharp.
In the 49ers’ previous two games, a Week 7 loss to the Chiefs and a Week 8 win against the Cowboys, their opponent was coming off a bye. After playing the Bucs, they will host the Seahawks on Nov. 17 when Seattle is coming off a bye. Then, after visiting Green Bay on Nov. 24, they will trek to Buffalo on Dec. 1 when the Bills are coming off a bye.”
Rookie safety Mustapha uncertain for 49ers-Bucs game with calf injury
“Shanahan said. “Hopefully it won’t be too big of a deal but halfway through practice, his calf was bothering him, so we shut him down there.”
Kawakami: November mailbag: Why I’m not a righteousness cop vs. Nick Bosa
“Though it was an interesting decision by Shanahan, no, I don’t think letting Klay Kubiak call the preseason plays had any effect on the 49ers’ offense. Despite some clunky moments and the absence of Christian McCaffrey, the 49ers’ offense is still ringing up top-5 numbers in almost every important category. For instance, the 49ers are the No. 2-ranked team in yards per play at 6.5.
The main problem has been the struggle to score touchdowns once the 49ers get into the red zone (48.6%, ranked 28th in the league). But two things about that: 1) they’ve had an uptick over the last three games (61.5%) and 2) getting McCaffrey back Sunday or a little later should put them back near 70% the rest of the way, which is where they were last season.”
