Source: 49ers QBs coach Brian Griese decides to leave coaching after 3 seasons (paywall)
“After his first season, Griese considered leaving coaching, but he eventually decided to return after weighing family considerations. Griese’s wife and two children were in Denver during his debut season with the 49ers.”
REWIND: Why Brian Griese left television booth to become 49ers’ quarterbacks coach
“Brian was very successful, has a family out in Denver, hours change a lot and they all say they know, which he does, but it gets different once you really get into it,” Shanahan said. “We really tried to scare the heck out of him, tried to tell him how bad it sucked and how miserable he was gonna be and how much your wife’s not gonna like it.”
Despite Shanahan and his staff’s best efforts at a football edition of “Scared Straight,” Griese was unfazed. For every concern Shanahan or another coach broached, Griese had an answer. More importantly, he fit in easily with the other assistants, and although there’d be a learning curve, Shanahan called it an easy decision. Within 48 hours of first contact, Griese was his guy and he soon signed a two-year contract to replace departing quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello.”
Kubiak named 49ers’ OC; Lombardi replaces Griese as QB coach
“Before joining the 49ers, he spent two seasons as the Las Vegas Raiders’ offensive coordinator. He also served as an assistant for San Francisco from 2013 through 2016, the New York Jets from 2017 through 2018 and the New England Patriots from 2019 through 2021.”
“The biggest value I get from being here is just being able to sit down across from the players, face to face, and being able to hear their stories, hear their background, their upbringing,” Ryans answered when NBC Sports Bay Area asked him about the value of the combine for a head coach.
“Also, just get to feel their energy, feel their passion and love for the game of football. It comes off in those 15-minute interviews. I can feel their energy very instantly.”
“That Warren is big and physical enough to play inline also could save George Kittle some of those snaps and prolong his career,” Barrows added. “For years, the 49ers have been eying an Aaron Hernandez-Rob Gronkowski-like personnel group. A Kittle-Warren duo? That would drive defensive coordinators mad.”
Barrows isn’t the only one who believes the 49ers could target the Penn State tight end. Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area also projected the team selecting Warren in a recent mock draft.
“Yes, the 49ers might have bigger needs on the offensive and defensive lines,” Maiocco wrote. “But there is not another game-changer they can take here that compares to the ultra-versatile Warren.”
Report: Teams have inquired about trading for 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk
“Brandon Aiyuk is a player that a lot of teams had interest in before he signed that deal last year,” Russini said on the Scoop City podcast. “Remember, he signed that four-year, $120 million deal. There are some teams poking around now to see if the 49ers would be willing to deal Brandon Aiyuk.”
49ers select ‘dominant pass-rushing prospect’ in latest Bucky Brooks mock draft
“Green (6-4, 215) is the fourth edge rusher taken in Brooks’ mock draft, following Penn State’s Abdul Carter, Georgia’s Mykel Williams, and Georgia’s Jalon Walker—all off the board by the 11th pick. Brooks also has two offensive linemen—LSU’s Will Campbell and Texas’ Kelvin Banks Jr.—going in the top 10.
Green was dominant in his final season at Marshall, leading the nation with 17 sacks. He also tallied 84 tackles (23 for a loss), two passes defensed, three forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.
Pro Football Focus awarded Green a 92.4 defensive grade, the highest among all FBS defenders. His 90.2 run-defense grade ranked second among edge rushers, while his 91.4 pass-rush grade tied for sixth.”
Browns GM insists team won’t trade Garrett despite star’s request
“Trade requests happen around the league all the time,” Berry said. “I think at times for individual players, that they’ll have certain interests during different parts of their career whether they’re a young player or a veteran player….It’s not unusual. It’s not the first for us, and it probably won’t be the last. It’s not the first across the league. But we respect and appreciate Myles and, like I said, we’re not interested in moving him.”
