Why 2025 NFL Draft influenced 49ers trading Mason to Vikings
“Quinshon Judkins of Ohio State, Dylan Sampson of Tennessee, Quincy Riley of Louisville, Cam Skattebo of Arizona State and RJ Harvey of Central Florida are among the running backs who could be available for the 49ers in the middle rounds.”
Is 49ers’ apparent reliance on a good draft a prudent approach for next season? (paywall)
“Now the 49ers seem to be following the path laid out by others, like the Rams and Buffalo Bills. After years of being the alpha male in the relationship, Shanahan is apparently trying to emulate his one-time underling Sean McVay, by shedding aging players and rebuilding with youth.
However, there are stark differences between the Rams and 49ers. For one, the Rams didn’t just make a Super Bowl, they won a Super Bowl, which meant their mission had already been accomplished at the time of their reset. As you painfully remember, that’s not the case with the 49ers.
And McVay (along with his general manager Les Snead) may be better than the 49ers at identifying young talent. The Rams’ rebuild has been terrific, particularly on defense. The 49ers, in contrast, have struggled to find defensive line stars in the draft, outside of the no-brainer selection of Bosa.
The current defensive line’s construction is “Nick Bosa and some other guys,” and even Robert Salah’s return as defensive coordinator won’t be able to save Bosa from being double- and triple-teamed unless some other legitimate pass-rushing threats are added.”
