“I don’t know that any team would say, ‘Oh, let’s go get him. Let’s go pay him a lot of money,’ because the guy had the Achilles injury throughout the 2023 season,” Maiocco explained. “He ruptures it in the Super Bowl. And then, when he came back, he clearly wasn’t right and could only play one half of one game.
“And so, I would think that the market for Dre Greenlaw is going to be the 49ers, who want him back but also are quite cognizant of his physical condition, so I can’t imagine they’re going to pay him top dollar and a multi-year contract.”
Maiocco speculated about potential suitors but remained skeptical about significant outside interest. He mentioned the Tennessee Titans, who previously had ties to the 49ers through former general manager Ran Carthon, as a possibility. However, The team recently fired Carthon.
Maiocco also floated the Houston Texans, where head coach DeMeco Ryans, the 49ers’ former defensive coordinator, might value Greenlaw. There’s also the Washington Commanders, with general manager Adam Peters, who served on Lynch’s 49ers staff.
“So I just don’t know that there’s going to be a huge market for Dre Greenlaw because how much time did we spend this season talking about injuries?” Maiocco asked. “And the last thing teams want would be to go out and sign a free agent who has a history of injuries.”
49ers macro minute: Snap totals highlight rookies, show the offseason work ahead (paywall)
“With apologies to the offensive line, the defensive line seems like the area that needs the most work in the offseason. Among the pending free agents are Hargrave, Givens and Khalil Davis, whose 2024 contribution amounted to three tackles after the 49ers traded for him at midseason.
Okuayinonu, who had the fourth-most snaps, flashed early on but didn’t have either a sack or even a quarterback hit in the last seven games.”
Report: 49ers must hold open search to fill OC job before promoting Kubiak
“The NFL requires every team to interview at least two external minority candidates in person or virtually for a coordinator job.
The 49ers must conduct an open search to fill the role of offensive coordinator, Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reported on Friday, citing a source.”
“Pearce is an intriguing prospect, having recorded a career-high 10 sacks last season. This year, he followed up with 7.5 sacks, 38 tackles (13 for a loss), a pass deflection, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
Pro Football Focus graded Pearce at 87.1 or higher on defense and 88.9 or higher as a pass rusher in each of the past two seasons, highlighting his disruptive force on the edge.”
49ers’ Fred Warner joins exclusive company with latest first-team All-Pro honor (paywall)
“Warner played the final 13 games with a broken bone in his right ankle. His injury could have contributed to a four-game stretch from Weeks 11-14 when he had 16 tackles, the fewest in a four-game span in his career. However, Warner finished with 40 tackles in his final four games, a stretch that started with a career-best 15 stops in a 12-6 loss to the Rams on Dec. 12.
Warner said last week that his ankle injury improved during the season, but it won’t fully heal until he rests. Warner will not require offseason surgery.”
