Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles is headed to the big apple
Long-time San Francisco 49ers linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles is headed to the Big Apple. Flannigan-Fowles, who was an undrafted free agent a part of the 2019 NFL Draft class, signed a one-year deal with the New York Giants.
Flannigan-Fowles started sparingly during his tenure with the 49ers. He did most of his damage on special teams and occasionally filled in as the third linebacker if an injury occurred.
Flannigan-Fowles played 184 snaps on special teams this last season for the Niners but only had four tackles. In an effort to get bigger, faster, and stronger, the 49ers likely felt they needed a player more active on special teams.
The 49ers may draft a linebacker still. Right now, they are looking at Fred Warner, Dee Winters, and Luke Gifford as players with NFL experience — and Winters just got his feet wet in 2024. Other than that, 2023 7th-rounder Jalen Graham and 2024 7th-rounder Tatum Bethune are on the roster, as is Curtis Robinson — who was primarily a special teamer.
