For only the second time since 2019, the NFC championship game won’t feature the San Francisco 49ers. Instead, it’ll feature one of the teams they’ve had a run-in with during their recent stretch of deep postseason jaunts.
The Philadelphia Eagles will host the Washington Commanders in the NFC title game. It’s not unlike the 2022 NFC championship where 49ers rookie quarterback Brock Purdy had to go to Philadelphia with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. Washington will hope their trip to Philly goes better than San Francisco’s did (a 31-7 loss and a major injury for Purdy).
A key difference is Purdy didn’t start a game until late in the year. Commanders rookie signal caller Jayden Daniels has been sensational all season and is likely on track for an Offensive Rookie of the Year nod.
The Eagles and Commanders split their two regular season matchups this season. Philadelphia secured a 26-18 win in Week 11, but Washington avenged the loss with a 36-33 win in Week 16. Eagles QB Jalen Hurts didn’t start that game.

Commanders vs. Eagles prediction, pick
A Commanders victory would be way more fun here, but it’s hard to imagine this year’s Washington club going on the road and winning against what might be the best roster in the NFL. The Payne injury is a big one for the Commanders since slowing down Eagles RB Saquon Barkley already looks impossible. Washington may score, but getting stops is going to be tough.
Prediction: Eagles 38, Commanders 31
