For the first time in a long time, the 49ers finally received positive news regarding one of their quarterbacks.
On Tuesday afternoon, Trey Lance announced that he’s three-to-four weeks away from being fully cleared for practice. He added that he’ll be at 100 percent for OTAs.
Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2.
In January, the 49ers announced that Lance had a second procedure to remove hardware in his ankle that was causing irritation.
The 49ers could use some encouraging news. On Monday, it was announced that Brock Purdy suffered a complete tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow.
Purdy is expected to seek second opinions before making a final decision. If he undergoes surgery, he’ll be out for roughly six months.
Though it’s unfortunate, Purdy’s injury could open the door for Lance to reassert himself as the starting quarterback in San Francisco.
Lance has 797 passing yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions since being drafted by the 49ers in 2021.
