Despite yet another round of contract talks with the San Francisco 49ers, no new deal has materialized for star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Now the team’s leading receiver appears to be pretty upset with the team over an alleged trade rumor.
A recent Instagram post from JPA Football noted that ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the 49ers had trade discussions with the Washington Commanders involving him prior tot he 2024 NFL Draft, but the Commanders decided to pull the plug.
Aiyuk appears to have found the post as he commented on it with this: “But I thought the niners was never tryna trade me?”
That’s not a good sign. Either Aiyuk is amused by the report or he is not at all pleased with what he’s heard.
Despite coming off his best season and back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons, Aiyuk does not appear to be getting that big contract he wants right now. The fact that the 49ers recently gave a big contract to star running back Christian McCaffrey probably isn’t helping things along.
And the 49ers also have to weigh how much money they need to set aside for quarterback Brock Purdy when his current deal runs up at the end of the 2025 season.
It’s a precarious situation in the Bay Area right now and Aiyuk seems like he’s more than ready to upset the apple cart if he doesn’t get his deal.
