Brandon Aiyuk and Kyle Shanahan had an issue about shorts

Did somebody say shorts?

If you were looking at social media on Friday, you may have been treated to the San Francisco 49ers’ equivalent of a YouTube cat video: 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan talking to wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk about his shorts.

Apparently, those were the wrong shorts. Aiyuk wore the red shorts. The black shorts were what was needed at the 49ers’ practice on Friday. As you can see from the video, that’s what everyone else had on.

Shame.

Aiyuk took off the shorts on the field and did a little jig. Many are using it as a Jake Moody punchline, and then that was it.

Obviously, it’s a bit odd. When you think about all the events of the 2024 offseason between Aiyuk and the 49ers, this might not help his case for some of the growing frustration from fans and the organization about him missing training camp and signing a contract at the absolute last minute.

Kyle Shanahan was asked about shortsgate in his press conference:

Kyle Shanahan’s quote of the season: “I wish I could wear different shorts.”

While a video of Aiyuk wearing shorts and the jig he does after seems like a non-issue, when you consider the storylines leading up to “Shortsgate,” it seems like another chapter in a long series of episodes between the 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk.

Kyle Shanahan seems to not care. How about you?
