The San Francisco 49ers dominated the Chicago Bears on Sunday to the tune of a 38-13 blowout victory. With the win, the 49ers improved to 6-7 on the season.
Though he would exit with a possible foot sprain, rookie running back Isaac Guerendo racked up 128 total yards and a pair of touchdowns in his first career start.
Meanwhile, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy diced up the Bears’ defense with 325 passing yards and two touchdown passes of 7 and 16 yards to receiver Jauan Jennings.
Unfortunately, results elsewhere meant that San Francisco didn’t make up any ground in the NFC West chase.
The Seattle Seahawks used 233 passing yards and a passing touchdown from quarterback Geno Smith and 134 rushing yards and a pair of scores from running back Zach Charbonnet to win at Arizona, 30-18.
With the win, Seattle remained in sole possession of first place in the NFC West and improved to 8-5. The Seahawks have now won four straight dating back to their 20-17 triumph over the 49ers from Levi’s Stadium on Nov. 17.
The loss dropped Arizona to 6-7 and into a tie with San Francisco in the NFC West basement.
In the biggest upset of the day, the Los Angeles Rams downed the Buffalo Bills, 44-42. The Rams’ win from SoFi Stadium was the highest-scoring game of the season. Los Angeles and Buffalo combined for 902 yards of offense without a turnover or a quarterback sack.
Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen became the first player in NFL history with three passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns in a game during his league-record fifth career outing with at least two of each.
However, it wasn’t enough for Buffalo.
Los Angeles stayed within a game of Seattle, while San Francisco and Arizona each sit two games back with four games left to play.
San Francisco returns to action on Thursday when they host the Los Angeles Rams from Levi’s Stadium. The 49ers will then close with a trip to Miami on Dec. 22, a home date against Detroit on Dec. 30 and a final road game at Arizona on Jan. 5.
