Should the 49ers have more of a presence?
The NFL Combine wraps up today with the offensive linemen and there isn’t a single San Francisco 49ers coach in Indianapolis, Indiana.
A nice news nugget came Friday from Greg Papa on KNBR’s Papa & Silver Podcast. With John Lynch’s departure from Indianapolis Friday Morning, there will be no San Francisco 49ers coaches at the 2025 NFL Combine.
Speaking with Matt Maiocco, Papa stated that while they invited Lynch to come on, Lynch flew back to the Bay Area.
“We invited John [Lynch]to come on today. We thought he’d come on, but John actually flew back to the Bay Area today. The Niners don’t have a single coach here.”
So for most of Friday, all of Saturday, and today, there are no 49ers coaches at the 2025 NFL Combine.
That’s not to say the 49ers didn’t do business at the combine. Lynch met with the media on Wednesday to discuss the state of the 49ers and several pre-combine interviews were most likely conducted before he left.
By comparison, head coach Kyle Shanahan didn’t even attend the Combine, a tradition that has existed since 2021, much to the frustration of many on 49ers social media.
On Saturday, the Combine featured quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers. Today, it’s offensive linemen. The 49ers get the workouts sent digitally almost immediately, so it’s not like they will miss anything by not sitting in the stands at the event. They can just put the workout on their device and take notes in an office. The days of a coach sitting there with a stopwatch making precise notes because he’ll never see a prospect run the 40-yard dash again before the draft ended years ago.
Are you concerned by Papa’s observation that there are no 49ers coaches at the Combine for the weekend?
