The NFL offseason is mostly winding down now that the NFL draft is over. However, the end of the NFL draft also means free agent additions no longer factor into the compensatory pick formula. That opens the door for teams like the 49ers to try and fill some of the holes on the margins of their rosters with unsigned veterans.
It’s unlikely San Francisco will make any major splashes given their salary cap constraints. They have only $6.3 million in cap space according to Over the Cap and they’ve not signed any of their draft picks yet. Creating additional room isn’t particularly difficult though and there are a handful of free agents who could help them fill out some of the areas of their roster that weren’t addressed via the draft.
