A new contract for quarterback Brock Purdy remains atop the San Francisco 49ers’ offseason priority list. That won’t be their only move under center this offseason though.
Purdy was backed up by Brandon Allen and Joshua Dobbs for the 2024 season, but both players are slated to hit unrestricted free agency in the offseason and it’s unlikely both return.
The 49ers could conceivably bring back one or the other to back up Purdy next season. Allen and Dobbs each started one game with mixed results. An elbow injury for Purdy in Week 17 highlighted once again some of the fragility of the starting QB spot and the necessity of having at least some insulation from an injury to Purdy.
They’re not going to break the bank to back him up, but it wouldn’t be a huge shock if they tried to find an upgrade at the QB2 spot.
