The 49ers officially signed Austen Pleasants and LB Chandler Wooten to the practice squad. They placed TE Mason Pline on the Practice Squad Injured Reserve List. To make room, CB Ambry Thomas was waived
The San Francisco 49ers officially announced the signing of offensive tackle Austen Pleasants to the practice squad, as previously reported on Tuesday morning. Linebacker Chandler Wooten was also signed to the practice squad.
Wooten will take the place of the linebacker who walked off the field mid-game. Wooten entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent after the 2022 NFL Draft. During his three-year NFL career, Wooten spent time on practice squads with the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers. He’s appeared in 20 games with the Panthers. Wooten played in three games this season, totaling six tackles before Carolina released him from the practice squad on November 7.
Tight end Mason Pline was placed on the practice squad Injured Reserve List. Pline signed to the practice squad on August 28. If the 49ers are keeping him around through injury, it’s a sign that they’ve liked what they’ve seen from Pline as a rookie. He’s a big, athletic, tight end with the frame (he’s over 250 pounds) to hold up in the running game. As is the case with most first-year players, Pline likely needed an adjustment period.
To make room for Pline, the 49ers waived their 102nd overall selection of the 2021 NFL Draft. Cornerback Ambry Thomas was on the Injured Reserve all season. He appeared in 42 games throughout his career and even started four playoff games.
