The 49ers have an opportunity to hold the Cardinals to a field goal and go down and score to put the game away
Leonard Floyd sacked Murray to begin the second half, and the Cardinals quickly punted. But it wouldn’t be long before their offense returned to the field.
After the Purdy to Aiyuk combo converted a 3rd & 12, Purdy’s pass was tipped straight into the air, resulting in an interception. But the defense held and gave up next to nothing, limiting Arizona to a field goal to bring the score to 23-13.
Purdy had one of his patent magical moments in the pocket where he avoided multiple rushers and scrambled for a first down. Mason had already run for 20 yards on this drive. But on 2nd & 14, Purdy couldn’t work another miracle and was sacked. After an incomplete pass, it was 4th & 23, and the Niners were forced to go for it.
A promising drive ended with no points, and the score remained a 10-point game. The Niners had dominated the time of possession by more than ten minutes up until this point.
The 49ers had the opportunity to force a long third down, but Ji’Ayir Brown missed Conner in the open field.
