DeAngelo Hall was a former 1st round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. After coaching with the Carolina Panthers for the previous two seasons as their assistant defensive backs coach, Hall will interview for the same position with the 49ers
The Carolina Panthers announced a couple of changes to their defensive coaching staff as recently as Friday morning. Former first-round pick and three-time Pro Bowl cornerback DeAngelo Hall had been the Carolina Panthers assistant defensive back’s coach for the previous two seasons. It was his first career coaching gig after a 15-year career in the NFL.
According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the San Francisco 49ers will interview Hall next week for their defensive backs coaching position. According to Garafolo, Hall and the Panthers agreed to mutually part ways so that Hall could seek a job as a primary position coach.
Daniel Bullocks has been the safeties coach since 2019. Andrew Hayes-Stoker has been the assistant defensive backs coach. Perhaps Hayes-Stoker is on his way out, and the 49ers have their eyes on a long-time player in Hall. On the team’s home page, Bullocks holds the title of “defensive passing game specialist,” so there’s room for Hall to hold the title as the primary defensive backs coach.
Despite not having coaching experience, Hall was on Washington’s roster during Kyle Shanahan’s four-year tenure in D.C. as the offensive coordinator. So Shanahan is familiar with Hall’s work habits and his overall approach to the game.
As you can tell from the article’s photo, Hall might have a keen eye for talent at cornerback, and that’s a position the 49ers will look into this offseason with the expectation that Charvarius Ward will move on. So, a former player who played at a high level and has been around the game for two decades. Hall would also be an investment in players like Renardo Green and Deommodore Lenoir.
