The 49ers added more secondary help with the 221st pick in the 2022 draft. This time they added Penn State cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields.
Castro-Fields brings NFL size at 6-1, 197 pounds and he played in 52 college games with 30 starts. That experience bodes well for him sticking around, but there’ll be plenty of competition ahead of him on the depth chart.
In his 52 games he posted 139 tackles, three interceptions and 25 pass breakups. Ideally the ball production would be better, but his size and physical tools give him a relatively high ceiling. The 49ers won’t need Castro-Fields to start right away, but he could eventually develop into a player that pushes for a starting job next year.
