The 49ers injury woes continue at running back after Isaac Guerendo was carted off the field in the 1st quarter.
The San Francisco 49ers have had the worst luck at running back this season. Their starter and reigning Offensive Player of the Year, Christian McCaffrey, missed the first half of the season with an Achilles injury, only to return briefly before being shut down.
His backup, Jordan Mason, battled a shoulder injury before ultimately being placed on the Injured Reserve with a high ankle sprain. Mason backed up Elijah Mitchell, who did not make it to the regular season with a hamstring injury.
Rookie Isaac Guerendo came into the NFL with a lengthy injury history. He’s battled a hamstring and foot sprain as recently as December. The hamstring injury had been an issue since the first day of training camp.
Unfortunately, Guerendo sustained a knee injury during the first quarter against the Arizona Cardinals and was initially ruled out by the team. The camera showed Guerendo face down on the ground in obvious pain. Guerendo had the body language of somebody who knew it was a serious injury. The 49ers wound up carting Guerendo off the field.
We’ll have further updates after the game or on Monday once Guerendo’s MRIs are completed.
