It was a record-breaking season for McCaffrey, and he’s being acknowledged for it.
Last season was a magical run for San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey. The Niners’ offense was dominant in every facet, and McCaffrey came close to earning MVP honors.
Winning Offensive Player of the Year is nothing to scoff at, but McCaffrey has an opportunity to win and rack up a couple of other awards. McCaffrey was nominated for a pair of ESPY awards for ESPN. His first nomination is for the “best record-breaking performance.” McCaffrey has steep competition, including going head-to-head with somebody from his alma mater:
49ers Christian McCaffrey scores a TD for a record-breaking 17 straight games
Caitlin Clark becomes NCAA’s All-Time Scoring Leader, breaking Pete Maravich’s Record
Tara VanDerveer, Stanford Women’s Basketball – gets 1,203rd win to pass Coach K for most by any coach in NCAA basketball history
Max Verstappen wins record 10th consecutive race with victory at Italian Grand Prix
VanDerveer and Clark are likely the favorites to win the award, although it’s fantastic for McCaffrey to be acknowledged.
CMC was also nominated for the best NFL player:
Myles Garrett, Cleveland Browns
Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers
We all know who will win. I sat down with linebacker De’Vondre Campbell recently, and asked him who the best player active player in the NFL that he has seen. Without hesitation, Campbell said, “Pat, man,” before explaining why.
Either way, congrats to McCaffrey for being recognized for a memorable season.
