Yetur Gross-Matos will miss the month of October with a knee injury after being placed on the Injured Reserve
The San Francisco 49ers announced a few transactions ahead of Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Edge rusher Yetur Gross-Matos was placed on the Injured Reserve. Gross-Matos hadn’t practiced all week with a knee injury. Now, he’ll miss the next four games when the Niners could use all the pass rush help they can get. The defense will face Kyler Murray, Geno Smith, Dak Prescott, and Patrick Mahomes.
Defensive tackle T.Y. McGill Jr. was activated from the practice squad, and defensive tackle Kalia Davis was activated from the Injured Reserve List. So the 49ers will head into Sunday’s game with Nick Bosa, Leonard Floyd, Robert Beal Jr., and Sam Okuayinonu as their defensive ends.
Between Davis, McGill, Maliek Collins, Kevin Givens, and Jordan Elliott, the 49ers have ample bodies to rotate and keep players fresh along the defensive line. That’ll be imperative on a day when temperatures are expected to come close to triple digits.
Rookie wide receiver Jacob Cowing is officially questionable because of a shoulder injury. He did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday and was a limited participant on Friday.
Cowing’s primary role has been as a punt returner. The team also elevated Trent Taylor from the practice squad, which is a sign that Cowing isn’t healthy enough to play, and Kyle Shanahan wants somebody who is sure-handed to handle punts.
