The 49ers officially promoted Patrick Taylor Jr. to the active roster from the practice squad and signed RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn to the practice squad. Kevin Givens was placed on the Injured Reserve List
The San Francisco 49ers announced a few roster moves Wednesday afternoon. Running back Patrick Taylor Jr. was promoted to the active roster from the team’s practice squad. He figures to remain on the 53-man roster for the duration of the year with Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Mason sidelined.
Taylor appeared in two games this season for the 49ers. In Week 6 and 8 against the Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys. He had seven carries in both games for 25 yards, with 11 coming after contact. Taylor Jr. also has special teams value. He’s played on at least one special teams unit in eight different games this season.
Against the Seahawks, nine of Taylor’s 16 snaps came against the pass. He should see the bulk of the third down or obvious passing snaps, as Kyle Shanahan will unlikely rely on a rookie running back in pass protection.
Defensive tackle Kevin Givens was placed on the Injured Reserve List. Givens played 185 snaps this season for the Niners and was a productive role player in his limited opportunities. His contract is up after this year, and he will be an unrestricted free agent in 2025, so we may have seen the last of Givens in a 49ers uniform.
The team also officially announced that running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn would be on the practice squad.
