Several 49ers players have some extra milestone-oriented incentives in the final game.
The San Francisco 49ers may not have any opportunity to play their way into the playoffs in their Week 18 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. However, that does not mean several players do not have plenty to play for. Beyond pride, bragging rights, and improving potential free agent prospects, several players can earn some hefty contract incentives and/or hit some big milestones depending on their performances.
49ers tight end George Kittle has a per game roster bonus in his contract, which pays out simply by appearing in the game. So don’t be shocked if Kittle only plays for a series or two. The 31-year old has had his most productive season in years, tallying 76 receptions for 1,079 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns in just 14 games. He leads tight ends in most receiving categories.
Edge rusher Leonard Floyd could earn some significant incentives with a big day. He currently has 8.5 sacks on the season. His contract included $500,000 bonuses for 8, 10, and 12 sacks respectively. If he records 1.5 sacks today, he’ll earn another $500,000. If he manages an incredible 3.5-sack performance, he’ll earn another $1 million.
Besides the explicit financial bonuses, other 49ers could hit some big milestones. Superstar edge rusher Nick Bosa needs one sack for his fourth-straight season with double-digit sacks. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings is 77 yards away from his first career 1,000-yard season.
