The 49ers are heading back on the road to see a familiar face.
Fresh off a disappointing 12-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers are set to face off against the Miami Dolphins in Week 16, hitting the road to see a familiar face in head coach Mike McDaniel.
San Francisco struggled to generate any offense on a rainy day at Levi’s Stadium, as Brock Purdy completed just 14/31 passes for 142 yards and an interception in the loss, while the team generated only 63 rushing yards on 3.3 yards per carry.
This matchup pits two 6-8 teams who have seen their fair share of ups and downs this season against each other, with the Dolphins still having a very slim chance to make the playoffs.
So, going on the road against the Dolphins, how are the 49ers seen, odds-wise, in Week 16?
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the 49ers are 1.5-point underdogs against the Dolphins heading into the weekend matchup, with the over/under set at 45.5 points.
Miami is coming off an ugly 20-12 loss to the Houston Texans where quarterback Tua Tagovailoa turned the ball over four times, including a game-sealing interception with a chance to drive down and tie the game.
Prior to Sunday’s loss, Miami had won three of their last four games with Tagovailoa finding his groove following his early-season injuries, beating the Los Angeles Rams, New England Patriots, and Las Vegas Raiders before moving past the New York Jets 32-26 in a close victory.
But, their latest setback has them two games out of the final wildcard spot with three games left to go in the season.
San Francisco’s season essentially ended with their loss to the Rams, as they fell even further in the divisional race, dropping two games behind Los Angeles and the Seattle Seahawks.
Without much to play for, we’ll see how this 49ers team responds to end the year, starting with a Miami Dolphins team that has disappointed this year.
San Francisco has a number of injury questions as left tackle Trent Williams is still working back from an ankle issue that has sidelined him for the past four weeks. Additionally, they hope to get Malik Mustapha back after the rookie safety missed last week’s outing with chest and shoulder injuries.
Another question is the health of Dre Greenlaw, who dealt with soreness in his return from a torn Achilles, so all three will be monitored this week with the hopes of coming back and finishing the 2024 season strong for the 49ers.
