Renardo Green, you’re up kid.
When San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said All-Pro cornerback Charvarius Ward came left Sunday’s Week 5 game against the Arizona Cardinals with a knee bruise, it made a lot of sense.
Mooney looked like a shell of himself and was a net negative on the field. He couldn’t tackle or run with receivers. A few days later, it was unlikely that Ward would be healthy enough to play. He went through a pre-game workout but is officially inactive for tonight’s game:
QB Josh Dobbs
TE Brayden Ellis
CB Charvarius Ward
LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles
OL Ben Barth
K Jake Moody
DT Jordan Elliott
That means Renardo Green will take a bulk of the snaps tonight against a pass-heavy offense like the Seahawks. And there are no easy matchups with DK Metcalf, Jaxson Smith-Njigba, and Tyler Lockett.
Isaac Yiadom and Deommodore Lenoir will start, but the 49ers live in Nickel, so Green will play a ton.
Matthew Wright will make his 49ers debut on the road in a difficult environment. Ideally, he’ll only be needed for extra points.
