The Niners have the third-best odds to reach the Super Bowl in the NFC next year, according to FanDuel.
The San Francisco 49ers won’t have to travel for Super Bowl LX. That’s a narrative that we’ll hear all offseason and into the regular season.
Oddsmakers aren’t projecting the 49ers as the favorite to win the Super Bowl, but the Niners aren’t far off. Per FanDuel Sportsbook, only two NFC teams have better odds to hoist a Lombardi next season than the team hosting the Super Bowl.
Here’s a look at the top 10:
– Eagles, +600
– Chiefs, +650
– Ravens, +650
– Bills, +750
– Lions, +1000
– 49ers, +1500
– Bengals, +1800
– Packers, +2000
– Commanders, +2400
– Rams, +2800
The 49ers know better than anybody outside of Kansas City how difficult it is to climb the mountain again and return to the Super Bowl. The likelihood of the Eagles returning is lower than many believe.
There isn’t an adjective that would do justice to how well the Eagles’ defense performed in 2024. They didn’t go as far, so they don’t receive the same hype, but the 49ers 2022 defense had a DVOA of -14.8 percent. They were far and away the best unit every time they stepped onto the field and led the NFL that season in schedule-adjusted efficiency. The Eagles were 1.4 percentage points better.
From Saquon Barkley staying healthy all season to inevitable defensive regression and all of the pieces Philadelphia will lose this offseason, reaching the pinnacle again won’t be easy.
The Eagles remain one of the most talented teams in the NFL. Talent rules all, so it’s no surprise to see the top teams listed in that order —although I’ll believe the Buffalo Bills can get over the hump once they prove it.
The Lions lost Ben Johnson, who architected that offense. Aaron Glenn is out as defensive coordinator. With two new coordinators and a shaky defense, the team will have trouble returning to a conference championship.
The landscape of the NFC looks favorable for the 49ers. Is third in the conference and sixth overall about right?
