The 49ers will need depth if Aaron Banks is out
The San Francisco 49ers announced they signed former Cleveland Browns first-round pick Cameron Erving to the practice squad Wednesday after head coach Kyle Shanahan said the team wouldn’t activate offensive lineman Jon Feliciano from the Injured Reserve.
Erving must not have impressed, been healthy, or fit into the Niners’ plans. He was released, the team announced, in favor of Sebastian Gutierrez. The 6-6, 310-pounder is an undrafted free agent from the 2022 NFL Draft. He’s been in the NFL for three seasons and was with the 49ers earlier in 2024 before bouncing around the practice squads of the Browns and Colts. Indianapolis released Gutierrez on November 25.
The 49ers could be short-handed along the offensive line more than they were a week ago. Not only has Trent Williams failed to practice this week with an ankle injury, Aaron Banks has not cleared the concussion protocol. If Banks is out, that’ll mean Spencer Burford takes his spot at left guard.
