Some NFL teams around the league have already started to make cuts to their roster. Each team has until 1 p.m. PT on Tuesday to get to 53 players.
We made our 53-man projection on Monday. While the majority of the roster is in place, difficult decisions at running back, wide receiver, defensive line, and deciding whether to keep four tight ends or nine offensive linemen will all be debated in the 49ers front office.
Based on preseason results, you could make an argument for 15 of the 49ers defensive linemen to make the roster. They’ll likely keep ten, but that tells you the quality that exists in the defensive lineman room. Alex Barrett and Eddie Yarbrough seem poised for the practice squad.
On a conference call Monday, Kyle Shanahan said that the team planned to meet Tuesday morning with the position coaches then check in with John Lynch and members of the front office to discuss cuts. He said they didn’t finish up meetings until late Monday afternoon, which is why there were no players released on Monday.
We’ll use this thread to update each cut the Niners make through this afternoon.
