There was a rather bizarre occurrence during today’s USC-Cal game (and we’re not just talking about the sit-in). An officiating error at the end of the second quarter resulted in the officials doing something rarely done before: Resuming the second quarter after the halftime break.
According to USC Football’s X account, the officials determined that the Trojans were supposed to have one second left on the clock before halftime after teams had already gone to the locker rooms. So in order to make up for the error, the officials decided to conclude the second quarter AFTER halftime.
“Officials have determined that USC had the ball with 1 second on the clock before halftime. USC will have the ball to officially conclude the 2nd quarter when we return from halftime,” USC Football wrote.
Fans were stunned that such a baffling officiating error could made. But while some were confused, others felt it was a “fitting end” to the Pac-12 Conference’s sendoff season.

“In so many ways this is the real sendoff game for this conference,” a third pointed out.
The Pac-12 will always have a special place in college football history.
