Dave Wilcox, the father of Cal football coach Justin Wilcox, passed away at 80 years old on Wednesday, the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced.
The Wilcox patriarch — aka “The Intimidator” — played 11 seasons in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers. In his decade-plus of professional football action, the star linebacker collected seven Pro-Bowl and two First Team All-Pro selections.
“Condolences to Coach Justin Wilcox and his family,” a Cal football account wrote on Twitter.

Justin Wilcox has been the head coach at Cal since 2017. Prior to his first head coaching job with the Golden Bears, he notched defensive coordinator stints with Boise State, Tennessee, Washington, USC and Wisconsin.
His older brother, Josh, played tight end for the University of Oregon (their father’s alma mater) before joining the NFL ranks for two seasons with the New Orleans Saints.
After a 21-year wait, Dave Wilcox was inducted into the Pro Football Hall os Fame as a member of the 2000 class.
Our thoughts are with the Wilcox family through his difficult time.
