Another Saturday morning, another student attempting a field goal to win some money on ESPN’s College GameDay.
This week, GameDay made it to Cal for the first time ever ahead of the Bears’ matchup with No. 8 Miami Saturday night. Daniel, Cal’s student representative, was given a chance to convert a roughly 40-yard field goal try worth $75,000. He missed, but his try was impressive enough that Pat McAfee and Kirk Herbstreit gave him another shot.
This time, $100,000 was riding on the kick for Daniel, plus an additional $100,000 added to the $500,000 ESPN had already pledged to Hurricane Helene relief. That’s some serious scratch.
With the pressure on him, Daniel drilled the kick down the middle with some room to spare, setting off pandemonium on the set. Not only did McAfee go nuts, as expected, but Herbstreit took off sprinting and later chest-bumped the lucky student.
Making it even more impressive is the fact Daniel made the field goal in a pair of Vans with no laces.

Whatever Cal does later tonight, Daniel is set to have a day. Hell, the rest of his year is going to be pretty sweet with that $100,000 in his bank account.
Cal and Miami will get underway at 10:30 p.m. ET tonight from California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley.
ESPN will broadcast the contest, which is somehow an ACC game in this world of modern college football.
