On the same day that “College GameDay” made its inaugural trip out to Berkeley, CA, the Golden Bears were this close to pulling the upset on undefeated Miami on Saturday night.
Cal surrendered a 25-point lead in the second half and ended up losing 39-38.
As the game was wrapping up and the loss began to set in, fans of the school were spotted getting into it with players on the Canes’ sideline and even threw trash at them from the crowd.
It wasn’t received the best on social media.
“We were down 20+ and came back. I’ve been on the other side of heartbreaking games, and I get that it’s an emotional sport, but I never think of throwing objects at the opposing team,” a user said.
“The #Calgorithm was all fun and games happy go lucky until they caught the L then they devolved into the rest of CFB. Hating Miami, classless fans, and [expletive] about refs and games being rigged against them,” another replied. “Y’all can hold this L just like everyone else. 6-0.”
“The irony of this. Miami is constantly called classless. These fans threw the U down all game. Miami players throw it up to the crowd and get bottles thrown at them. Incredible how blind and bias a lot of CFB fans are really,” another person commented.
“Cal fans wanna call our fans trash when they doing this [expletive] smh.”
“This could be the start of a nice little rivalry,” a fan posted.
Obviously, there’s no place for fans throwing anything at the players on the field. Hopefully this isn’t something we continue to see from Cal students in the future.
