The Stanford Cardinal staved off elimination against the Texas Longhorns in Game 2 of their Super Regionals tournament on Sunday night.
Stanford was led by pitcher Quinn Mathews, who threw a 156-pitch complete game to take home the victory against Texas.
“Not big time… LEGENDARY! Quinn Mathews IS Stanford!” NCAA Baseball tweeted.
But is 156 pitches dangerous?

Fans aren’t happy.
“This post brought to you by Tommy John’s,” one fan wrote.
“HOLY TJ,” one fan added.
“If he is still effective and wants to pitch, why take him out? And if anyone wants to bring up TJ or injuries, I’d love a credible source cited saying more pitches = TJ. Arm injuries can happen anytime and they aren’t more likely with more pitches besides the normal 1-1 ratio,” another fan wrote.
“Coach should be ashamed choosing his paycheck over what’s best for the pitcher, 90 pitches should’ve been the cutoff,” one fan added.
Texas and Stanford are set to play Game 3 on Monday.
