With the Big Ten and Big 12 siphoning off two-thirds of the Pac-12 schools, the ACC appears to want in on the realignment action too.
According to ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel, the ACC will be having calls among their athletic directors, league presidents and chancellors to explore the potential addition of Cal and Stanford.
Cal, Stanford, Oregon State and Washington State are the only schools that are technically still under contract with the Pac-12 beyond the 2023-24 athletics year. After that, their fate is unknown.
Adding the two California schools would be quite the change of pace for the ACC. As it stands, all of their 15 member institutions are situated in the Eastern time zone.
It’s a fluid landscape for the four leftover Pac-12 schools, and there’s myriad options being discussed. This one of them.

These talks aren’t guaranteed to lead to any of the four remaining Pac-12 schools joining the ACC. As Pete Thamel said in his second tweet, it’s a “fluid landscape” amid the chaos with “myriad options” on the table.
One thing seems certain: The Pac-12 will no longer be what it once was – and that’s if it winds up being anything at all when the dust finally settles.
Where will the four remaining Pac-12 schools go?
