Remembering the highs … and maybe the lows.
The 2025 NBA trade deadline is upon us. Some teams got an early jump on the action early, with the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks breaking the internet by swapping Luka Dončić and Anthony Davis, and the Sacramento Kings shipping De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs, while getting Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls in the process.
The Golden State Warriors, for their part, have tried to remain active. While they’ve yet to swing a deal, they have been swinging … for the fences. They’ve made runs at Jimmy Butler, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant, though it seems like all those attempts have largely gone sideways.
There’s still time though! But while we wait to see if Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Co. will find a way to add a star — or even just a role player — it seems like a good time to reminisce about trade deadlines of yesteryear.
So I ask you, Dub Nation: what is your favorite trade deadline memory?
For me, it’s easy. I can still remember the exact picture used in the Press Democrat accompanying the article about how the Warriors had traded for Baron Davis. The perpetually boring Warriors had landed one of the coolest and most entertaining players in the NBA, and I couldn’t wait to watch him suit up for the Dubs. I certainly wasn’t disappointed and now, more than 20 years later, the Warriors (mostly) haven’t slowed down on the entertainment front. It’s been a good few decades.
