A look at Thursday’s win over Sacramento, through the eyes of the fan.
It’s a good time to be a Golden State Warriors fan. With a 130-104 win over the Sacramento Kings on Thursday night, the Dubs now have a six-game winning streak, and are 13-1 with Jimmy Butler III in the lineup. Even with the Minnesota Timberwolves refusing to lose games, the Warriors look more likely to move up the standings then to fall back to the play-in tournament.
Thursday’s game was exciting, encouraging, and enjoyable, so let’s rewatch it through the eyes of the fan. Using comments from the game thread (and some from the recap, as well), here’s how the Golden State of Mind community watched the action unfold, in real time.
First quarter: “JK seems to be picking up right where he left off”
The Dubs got off to a hot start, but the best news was the return of Jonathan Kuminga. Despite missing 31 games with an ankle injury, Kuminga didn’t look hesitant at all. He was as athletic and explosive as ever, and had one of his best games as the Warriors outscored the Kings 30-18 in the frame.
Second quarter: “They all believe”
The second quarter briefly turned the game into a blowout, with the Dubs pushing the lead to 23 points. Unfortunately, the offense would go completely cold for the final five minutes, allowing Sacramento to close the gap, and make it just a 61-51 game at halftime.
Third quarter: “No better way to have scored 4K”
Sacramento’s run continued into the third quarter, with the Kings quickly melting the 23-point lead all the way down to four points. But after Steph Curry made his 4,000th career three-pointer — on a vintage pump fake, side-step, one-dribble jumper — the Warriors came alive, and pushed the lead back to 13 points by the end of the frame.
Fourth quarter: “They have entered the flow state”
The fourth quarter was entirely devoid of drama. The Warriors quickly turned the game into a blowout, with Kuminga and Moses Moody dominating as the Dubs coasted to a huge win.
Post-game: “Kuminga almost looks better than before”
When the dust settled on a 130-104 victory, it was clear that something special is brewing. The Warriors have been clicking since acquiring Butler, and now they’re working another dynamic talent into the fold. Excitement abounds!
