Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski, and Gary Payton II remain out for the Dubs.
After suffering an embarrassing loss against the Miami Heat on Tuesday night, the Golden State Warriors find themselves once again staring face-to-face with .500. Tonight, they’ll try to avoid dipping below .500 for what would be the first time all season. It won’t be easy. They’re kicking off a four-game road trip with a contest against the Detroit Pistons who, somehow, have a better record (19-18) than the Warriors, and have won five consecutive games. And to top it all off, the Warriors will be missing some serious talent.
Here’s the full injury report.
Warriors
Out — Andrew Wiggins (personal reasons)
Wiggins’ play has been up-and-down in recent games, but there’s no denying that this is a huge hit for the team. He’s one of their best perimeter defenders and one of their best scorers … and they’re desperately in need of both of those things. But, as always, there are things much more important in life than basketball, and hopefully everything is OK with Wiggins and his family.
Out — Jonathan Kuminga (right ankle sprain)
Unfortunately, we can get used to seeing this listing. Kuminga is still more than two weeks away from returning from his serious ankle injury.
Out — Brandin Podziemski (right abdominal injury management)
It sure will be nice when Podz can return to this depleted game. This is his sixth consecutive injury absence. Heal up, Brandin.
Out — Gary Payton II (left calf strain)
And the same for GPII, except this is his eight straight absence. Heal up, Gary! Sure will be nice to see you back on the court.
Questionable — Steph Curry (left knee inflammation)
It sure is a bummer seeing Curry on the injury report, and hopefully he’s able to play. If not, hopefully the Warriors can channel their Saturday play, when they beat the Memphis Grizzlies without Curry.
Questionable — Draymond Green (left ankle sprain)
Needless to say, a Warriors team already missing Wiggins and Kuminga will have a very difficult time winning if they’re also missing Curry and Green.
Questionable — Dennis Schröder (left hip contusion)
Schröder’s Warriors tenure has been off to a slow start, but there’s no denying that the team is in better shape with him healthy than wearing street clothes on the bench.
Questionable — Moses Moody (left knee patellar tendonopathy)
If you’re keeping track at home, that’s eight of the team’s 14 guaranteed contracts that are either out or questionable. Only Trayce Jackson-Davis, Kevon Looney, Kyle Anderson, Buddy Hield, Lindy Waters III, and Gui Santos were able to spare themselves from the injury report (plus two-way contracts Pat Spencer and Quinten Post).
Pistons
Out — Jaden Ivey (left fibula fracture)
Ivey, who won over fans immediately upon entering the league with an incredible post-draft speech after being taken No. 5 overall in 2022, has been having a spectacular third season, averaging 17.6 points and shooting 40.9% on threes. Unfortunately he underwent surgery last week, and will be sidelined until at least February.
Probable — Ausar Thompson (illness)
The second pick of the Thompson twins (Ausar went No. 5 in 2023 while Amen went No. 4 to the Houston Rockets) has had an interrupted start to his second season. Between an injury to start the year, a small ailment in December, and this illness, he’s only appeared in 15 of the team’s 37 games.
Enjoy the action, Dub Nation!
