The “Splash Brothers” era is about to come to an end for the Golden State Warriors. Moments ago, Shams Charania of The Athletic dropped a bombshell report regarding Klay Thompson’s future in the NBA.
Charania reported that Golden State is “preparing to lose” Thompson in free agency.
Thompson and the Warriors have reportedly had minima communication over the past two weeks. As a result, no offer has been made to him during this legal negotiating period.
“The Warriors, after other business, have wanted to circle back and negotiate with Thompson,” Charania wrote. “But he isn’t expected to be there waiting as a willing secondary priority in their summer plan, with his side feeling that the Warriors’ interest in a reunion has been disingenuous.”
Assuming this news is true, Thompson’s final performance with the Warriors will be a scoreless showing against the Sacramento Kings in the play-in tournament. He missed all 10 of his shot attempts in that game.
Overall, Thompson averaged 17.9 points per game this past season on 38.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
Thompson, a four-time NBA champion and five-time All-Star, could stay in the Western Conference. The Clippers, Lakers and Mavericks were listed as potential suitors for his services.
As for the Warriors, they’ve been heavily linked to Paul George. They’ll have a chance to pursue him in free agency.
