The Golden State Warriors are reportedly prepared to make a big move for Clippers All-Star forward Paul George this offseason.
According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Dubs have their eye on PG-13 and are willing to not only trade for him but also offer him a full four-year max extension.
“He wants a full-out max and there are a number of teams out there, I am told, that are prepared to give it to him, who are prepared to trade for him. One of those teams, potentially, is up the coast in Golden State,” Windhorst reported on Wednesday’s “Get Up.”
George is coming off another AS campaign in which he averaged nearly 23 points per game, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists while also providing strong on-ball defense.
Golden State is aggressively looking to bolster its roster after missing the playoffs just three seasons removed from winning the Finals. And if Windhorst is reading the tea leaves right it could happen sooner than we think.
“He could opt into his contract, and get traded by this weekend. That is something that is going to come to a head in the next day or two if he wants to go with that option — because obviously you’d have to negotiate a trade, and then the team wouldn’t necessarily need salary cap space,” Windy said.
“The Paul George sweepstakes is going to come to a head, at least that aspect of it, faster than those other players who are going to be free agents like Klay Thompson or DeMar DeRozan.”
