The Golden State Warriors have emerged as a major player ahead of the trade deadline. The Warriors are looking to add a star player. Ideally that would be one who can score and function as a playmaker. Golden State is also looking to improve their depth.
The Warriors are being linked to Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat, who would prefer to play for a win-now contender if he’s traded. Golden State is also interested in adding Dennis Schroder, Cameron Johnson or Dorian Finney-Smith from the Brooklyn Nets.
The Warriors are working against extremely tight margins in making any kind of deal. Golden State is hard-capped at the first apron and has just over $500,000 in wiggle room. One player Mike Dunleavy Jr. is expected to dangle in trade talks is De’Anthony Melton. Despite being out for the season, Melton’s $12.8 million salary would go a long way toward matching salary in a deal.
