The Golden State Warriors might have to play without team leader Stephen Curry for a couple of weeks, as the two-time MVP sprained his ankle in the second half of their loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

With eight minutes remaining in fourth quarter, Curry tried to free himself during an inbound play. After setting a screen, he can be seen immediately limping towards the sideline. A few seconds later, he was heading towards the locker room.
He did not return.

Led by Andrew Wiggins, who finished the contest with a game-high 29 points, the Warriors actually managed to outscore the Clippers (19-17) after Curry’s exit. They even closed L.A.’s lead to five points with 52 seconds remaining. However, without Curry, Golden State was unable to capitalize on their chances from beyond the arc.
A Cause For Concern?
Looking ahead, the Warriors will likely get medical imaging done on Curry’s ankle to determine the full severity of the injury.
What’s particularly concerning in this instance is that Curry has an unfortunate history with ankle injuries. He played just 26 games in 2011-12, largely due to a sprained right ankle. In fact, Golden State attempted to trade Curry to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2012, but the Bucks declined due to concerns about his ankle.
In what was a stroke of luck for him and the team, Curry remained relatively healthy for the next few seasons. However, in 2017-18, he missed 11 straight games with a sprained right ankle. Since then, he’s missed extended stretches with a strained groin (2018-19), broken hand (2019-20), and sprained foot (2022-23).
The good news is that none of those were ankle injuries. The bad news is that his most recent injury is, so it’s a cause for concern. Nobody seems to be thinking that it was season-ending. Nonetheless, those who remember that he’s had a season-ending ankle injury before know it’s a possibility.
