Most notable is yet another promotion for Mike Dunleavy Jr.
On Thursday, with training camp now in full swing, the Golden State Warriors announced a large number of promotions and hirings in the basketball operations department.
The moves were highlighted by promotions to three very notable names: Mike Dunleavy Jr., Zaza Pachulia, and Nick U’Ren.
The biggest move comes for Dunleavy, who has been promoted from Assistant General Manager to Vice President of Basketball Operations. It’s a bump up in status and responsibility — and likely pay grade — though Dunleavy’s job will probably remain fairly similar. The Warriors didn’t announce a replacement as Assistant General Manager, and Bob Myers is both the team’s General Manager and President of Basketball Operations, so Dunleavy is continuing to report to the same person.
It’s been a rapid ascension up the front office ladder for Dunleavy, who last played in the NBA during the 2016-17 season, and joined the Warriors just three years ago as a scout.
As for Pachulia, another former Warrior, he has been promoted to Liaison of Basketball and Business after two years as a Consultant in the same departments. It’s fun seeing so many former Dubs, like Pachulia, Dunleavy, Leandro Barbosa, and Hilton Armstrong, populating the organization.
Finally, U’Ren — who is best known for texting Steve Kerr late one night during the 2015 postseason to suggest replacing Andrew Bogut with Andre Iguodala in the starting lineup — has been promoted from Director of Basketball Operations to Executive Director of Basketball Operations.
