Before their trade with the Washington Wizards for Chris Paul, the Golden State Warriors held Jordan Poole talks with the San Antonio Spurs and Boston Celtics.
The Spurs registered interest in Poole, but never made a significant offer.
The Warriors and Celtics discussed a deal before they pivoted to a deal with the Wizards and Memphis Grizzlies in which they sent out Marcus Smart and acquired Kristaps Porzinigs.
The Warriors signed Poole to a four-year, $128 million contract extension last October in the immediate aftermath of him being punched in the face by Draymond Green. The NBA’s new more punitive collective bargaining agreement changed the calculus for whether the Warriors could afford to keep Poole in addition to Stephen Curry, Green, Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins.
