Iguodala’s number is the seventh to be retired by Golden State
Andre Iguodala’s number 9 jersey will ascend to the rafters of Chase Center on February 23rd, 2025, following the Warriors’ home game versus the Dallas Mavericks. Iguodala will be the seventh player in Warriors history to have their number retired, joining Alvin Attles (#16), Rick Barry (#24), Wilt Chamberlain (#13), Tom Meschery (#14), Chris Mullin (#17) and Nate Thurmond (#42).
The Warriors will retire Andre Iguodala’s #9 jersey on Sunday, February 23, following the team’s game against the Mavericks at Chase Center (12:30 p.m. tipoff), making him just the seventh player in Warriors franchise history to have his jersey number retired by the organization: pic.twitter.com/eJ93YikxrM

“Andre will go down as one of the smartest, shrewdest and most unique and successful players ever to wear a Warriors uniform,” said Warriors Co-Executive Chairman & CEO Joe Lacob in a statement for Warriors PR. “We thought all of that could be true when we acquired him in 2013, but the reality—four titles, six Finals appearances, a Finals MWP—exceeded even our wildest imaginations. He was the perfect player and person at the perfect time for our team, and the sacrifice he made in coming off the bench in 2014 sent a message that he came here to help us do one thing: win. The proof is in the rafters, and his number belongs alongside the banners he helped us raise.”
Iguodala’s accolades are beyond impressive. He is one of 11 NBA players to ever win four championships and a finals MVP — longtime teammate Steph Curry is another, and the only other Warrior. Iguodala won his finals MVP in 2015, when he was put into the starting lineup in a move that changed the tone of the whole six-game series versus LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers. Iguodala averaged 16.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists in this series. This championship ended a 40-year drought, bringing the Warriors their first championship since 1975.
There is some symbolism in the Warriors choosing to retire Iguodala’s jersey after a game versus the Dallas Mavericks, as well — legendary Warrior Klay Thompson now plays for Dallas. This year, the Warriors are 1-1 against the Mavericks.
Iguodala’s number has been informally retired amongst Warriors players since his retirement in 2023. Former Warrior Dario Šarić, who usually wears number 9, chose to wear his backup number 20 during his season with the Warriors.
Andre Iguodala will forever be remembered as the quintessential Sixth Man Who Stepped Up, and his jersey flying in the rafters is proof. Much like Max Kellerman, with the fate of the universe on the line, we will always want Iguodala.
