After spending six seasons apart, the Golden State Warriors are reportedly looking to get back into the Kevin Durant business.
With trade deadline talk heating up over the last 48 hours and the Dubs and Suns both sitting at 25-24, reports are that Golden State is looking to add the 6’11” sniper back to its lineup if Phoenix is willing to play ball.
Per Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix: “The Warriors are indeed serious about reuniting with Kevin Durant, sources told SI. And with efforts to acquire Jimmy Butler stalled rival execs believe the Suns are strongly considering Durant deals before the deadline.”
The Warriors have reportedly been aggressive in their pursuit of re-acquiring Durant as the Suns remain linked to Jimmy Butler.
Phoenix is in a pretty tight financial situation and the franchise doesn’t have much to show for it since bringing KD and Bradley Beal to the desert to team up with Suns all-time leading scorer Devin Booker.
In order for Golden State to make the move, they would need to offload a sizable chunk of their team’s salary to make room for Durant’s $51.1 million price tag. But according to Warriors forward Draymond Green, ownership is “pissed” and anything is on the table for his team.
“We all know [Joe Lacob is] pissed sitting at .500. You’d be a fool to sit back and think everything [is OK],” the four-time NBA champion said following Monday night’s 104-99 win.
“So sitting at .500, you gotta expect that they’re gonna look to be aggressive. You know, it’s not an organization that’s gonna do anything dumb, but they’re gonna look to be aggressive, and I understand it,” he continued. “… This ain’t some organization that’s just looking to be around .500. We want to compete.”
The idea of Kevin Durant back in The Bay is certainly exciting, but is it enough to get the Warriors back into championship contention in the West?
